About this time every year, we get tired of dealing with the cold weather and the snow here in Pennsylvania and we start to long for springtime. Luckily for us, we have these little beauties growing in our basement to tide us over. My husband, Ron built our first raised bed garden three years ago. And last year was our first attempt at starting our plants from seeds. This year the seedlings are beautiful! We learned so much the last two years and I have a feeling that this year is going to be our best one yet. Ron has a lot of exciting new ideas to try in our garden. One of those ideas is that he is building a high tunnel to go over our raised beds so that we can get our plants into the garden sooner and extend our growing season. Last year, the last heavy frost that we got was at the end of April and since we did not have a high tunnel then, we were not able to plant until after that. This year we'll be able to get a jump start on growing our food.
I can't wait until I can walk out my backdoor and pick dinner out of the garden. Until then, I keep checking in on our little seedlings, imagining all the wonderful dishes that they will become.
