I like to take the week between Christmas and New Year's Day and look back over what I accomplished this year, where there is room for growth, and look ahead to what I want to accomplish in the coming year.
I like using monthly goals instead of year long resolutions. Monthly goals are easier to commit to and each month offers a fresh start if the previous month has been difficult. Some of my monthly goals carry over from month to month; others goals are specific to each month. Keeping it fresh helps me stay focus on the moment and the goals for that time. This helps me be more successful too.
I think goals are important to help us accomplish things. Of course sometimes we get stuff done without any goal in place, but think how much more we get done when we have a plan laid out and are committed to it.
So whether you like New Year resolutions or not, I challenge you to join me and set monthly goals for yourself in 2017. You can start by setting just the goals for January. Or if you like to plan ahead, set some goals for each month. If you do the latter, don't get distracted by the coming months' goals though, simply focus on the month at hand.
One month at a time, all year long. Try it. It may just surprise yourself.
